On November 19, 2012, the Library of Congress (“LOC”) posted a job opening for a Copyright Royalty Judge on the Copyright Royalty Board (“CRB”) of the U.S. Copyright Office. The CRB consists of a three-judge panel that presides over quasi-judicial administrative proceedings related to copyright royalty rates, terms, and distributions. The current panel consists of Chief Copyright Royalty Judge Suzanne M. Barnett, Judge William J. Roberts, and Judge Richard C. Strasser. On September 17, 2012, the Librarian of Congress James H. Billington (“Librarian”), appointed Richard C. Strasser interim Copyright Royalty Judge for a six month term or until the Librarian appoints a permanent replacement for former Judge Stanley C. Wisniewski, who retired in August 2012. The current posting for Copyright Royalty Judge is to fill Judge Wisniewski’s position.

The LOC seeks an attorney in good standing with a bar, a minimum seven years’ legal experience, and knowledge of economics and administrative law. The incumbent will serve the remaining four years of a six-year term.

The deadline to apply for the Copyright Royalty Judge position is December 14, 2012.
