During the ninth triennial rulemaking proceeding under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the U.S. Copyright Office extended the deadline to submit petitions for new exemptions to section 1201’s prohibition against circumvention of technological measures that control access to copyrighted works. Petitions for new exemptions are now due by 11:59 p.m. eastern time on August 25, 2023. Written petitions for renewal of current exemptions remain due July 7, 2023, and written comments in response to any petitions for renewal remain due August 11, 2023.
