Copyright Office Extends Deadline for Public Comments on Remedies for Small Copyright Claims

On August 23, 2012, the U.S. Copyright Office issued a Notice of Inquiry inviting public comments from copyright owners on remedies for small copyright claims. Specifically, the Copyright Office requested comments on small copyright claim disputes, difficulties copyright owners may face, and suggestions to modify the current legal system. The Notice of Inquiry responds to Congress’ request for a review of small copyright claim disputes because copyright owners may not pursue infringement actions due to limited resources or small recovery possibilities.

On September 14, 2012, the U.S. Copyright Office extended the public comment deadline. The Notice of Inquiry includes a multitude of complex issues, which necessitates a greater response time for stakeholders. The new comment deadline is October 19, 2012.
