How much money is involved in retransmission / copyright royalties?

The U.S. Copyright Office sets the amount of the re-transmission royalties that are paid to all television copyright owners. It’s a considerable sum. In 2022, the royalty rates resulted in over $240 million collected for program owners. Approximately $240 million was collected for cable retransmissions, and about $4 million was collected for satellite retransmissions. Significantly smaller copyright royalty amounts are collected annually in Australia, Canada and across Europe.
